Review: Finding Happiness by Natasha Borah Khan

 About the Book

A collection of personal essays that reflects on the meandering journey of life. Seasoned with a myriad of emotions, memories, and experiences, they are an attempt to understand the true meaning of happiness, its elusive nature, and that it is a choice that we can make.

A compilation of thoughts and feelings so realistic, that they make the readers become the characters in the anecdotes themselves, to experience and feel the actions and emotions of every occurrence, and relive their own memories.

My Thoughts

Finding Happiness by Natasha Borah Khan is a cute and tiny book which made my day. I was able to relate to many things she said. This essay collection captures what I appreciate most about creative nonfiction - through exposing her deepest thoughts and dismays with unrelenting self-absorption and style. I like that there is positivity offsetting some of the negativity but that she still remains fundamentally the same person.

More than that, her essays are perfectly structured in a way that isn't obvious from the beginning and once I settled into the rhythm of her writing I found it absolutely hypnotizing. Natasha's writing worked best for me when her topics were deeply personal ones - such as her childhood. I felt like going and visiting her home in Assam to experience the sunshine during the day, oranges in the afternoon and a cosy fireplace in the evenings in winters.

I think that a majority can relate, especially women, to what she has written in the book. The life lessons she mentioned are very valid in my case and I'm sure it will be for everyone. It is a wonderful, honest, brilliant and raw book.
