Review : The Women of Greek Mythology
The Women of Greek Mythology handbook is quite comprehensive, well-organized, and full of fascinating information. We gain knowledge of the various goddesses, heroines, and demonesses. I think the author did an excellent job of organising all the stories and facts, which I can only guess was not an easy task given that many of the stories have several versions, there are overlapping stories for many of the Greek godesses, and sometimes the facts can be confusing. It details the histories and accomplishments of each goddesses, heroines, and demonesses. This book definitely isn't for those searching for a book that goes into great detail about this subject, but it does give a good overview of the topic.
I still know very little about Greek mythology and have a hard time remembering who is who, what they can do, and where they come from. The limited number of pages devoted to each person made sure I learned the fundamentals about them without becoming overwhelmed by learning about their different mythical appearances or the varying details about them when they do.
Despite my lack of background knowledge, I read this book in a few sittings because it was straightforward and simple to devote myself to. However, I can see myself going back to the relevant sections when I next dive into some original mythology.
Overall, The Women of Greek Mythology by Zayden Stone is a brief but extremely engaging book about the most well-known mythology involving the Greek godesses. The writing was clear and simple to read, yet it was also distinctive in its own right. Undoubtedly a book I'd suggest.
