Review: Reason To Fight

About The Book:

When the police deem the mysterious death of a television actor’s son a suicide, the grieving father turns to his niece, the solider-turned-private-investigator Radha Bose, who suffers from PTSD over a harrowing exit from the military.
Meanwhile, when cynical, sardonic teenager Aditya Gokhale is pursuaded to attend therapy after an unsuccessful suicide attempt, the therapist suggests that Aditya, who has recently dropped out of college, occupy himself by working with her friend, a certain female private investigator.
In this unique blend of crime thriller, psychological thriller, drama, and (the start of an unlikely) love story, what begins as a simple investigation turns into a labyrinth of lies, deception, greed, and betrayal, as Radha and Aditya, while navigating their inexorably complex relationship, hunt a murderer so cold, so calculating, so heartless, as to make the blood run cold.

My Thoughts:

I'm really glad I found this book because it's not often that you connect so deeply with characters from a story. I found a lot of myself in both Radha Bose and Aditya Gokhale. The way their personalities have been portrayed is truly praiseworthy. Both of them are just regular people, leading regular lives, and if you come to think of it have regular problems. It's not easy being depressed but depression is also not an alien disease. People have depression and they heal. But the effects linger. People have trauma and they fight it and try to move on but the scars stay. That's what this book is about. Yes, it's a crime mystery at its core but then it is also a deep exploration of the human mind, especially broken minds. What is also commendable here is the humour and pace of the story. Aditya is always a breath away from a witty retort and the banter between him and Radha kept me thoroughly entertained. I also liked the fact that the language was straight cut and there was no sugarcoating just for the sake of being mainstream. This is a top effort at nuanced storytelling and it definitely deserves a read.
